GAMEBALL and JOKER ==> ROCKIES at GIANTS 09/01

The Giants got one back…… 2 days after a broken bat and a bad bounce cost them a win….. a seeing eye grounder up the middle, a curveball in the dirt, and a wild throw got the Giants enough offense to take the rubber match behind a rejuvenated Lincecum add that to a Padres swoon…..suddenly the Giants hit the road full of optimism……

GAMEBALL and JOKER ==> ROCKIES at GIANTS 09/01

GAMEBALL

TIMMY!

TIMMY IS BACK!!!...ok, well not the 2008-09 Cy Young version topping out at 95-97 MPH……his velocity remains down, as he topped out at 92.8 MPH and averaged just south of 91 MPH…..but the CONTROL was there, with Timmy pounding the strike zone with a tailing fastball, and his plus plus Curve and Change…..the Rockies were on their heels and Timmy was able to out duel Jimenez……so maybe his velocity comes back, maybe it doesn't….either way Timmy will need to learn to pitch with diminished velocity…….and tonight showed me that he CAN adjust……"Hitting is timing. Pitching is upsetting timing" -Warren Spahn …….and with control, that offspeed stuff Timmy can keep the opponents off balance without a 95 MPH heater….and oh yeah, got a big 2 strike bunt down to set up the winning run……

TIP OF THE CAP :
FORD
Now that’s a debut!......Darren, the token prospect received for Ray Durham…..revived his career with a solid showing in San Jose and then in Spring……Assigned to AA Richmond, looked like Darren was finally on the track to the show……and then the arrest……falsifying police report that he was robbed of his employers $300…..things looked Villalona-like for Darren…….but tonight, he made a unexpected splash in the show……flying around the bases to give the Giants the go ahead run…….and he earned about $2200 and a per diem too….

FARTNOTE
Came up with the big hit of the game, with a hard hit 6 hopper out of the reach of EY Jr…..and good thing it was a 6 hopper as a ground ball single that died in the outfield actually gave Guillen enough time to trudge around 3rd and score…….Farty also drew the 3-2 walk off Jimenez in the 9th that turned into the winning run…..

GUILLEN
Started the Rally that tied the game in the 5th with a hard hit single….and good god……I swear this guy runs like Bengie on the bases….only less jiggly……

WILSON
Love him, hate him……but the fact of the matter is, he is one of the top closers in the game……

SANCHEZ
2 hits and a game ending catch that I have never seen before……I don't know what he was doing…..Kuip says it was too low to catch over the shoulder……but to me it looked like he overran a little and/ or didn't want to spin and risk losing track of the ball……in the end…….he saw ball and made sure it went into mitt……and that’s always a good play

JOKER

BOCHY

Managers lose more games than they win……and I usually try not to second guess moves unless, they are obvious…….but Bochy tried to squander all the Giants scoring chances……first of all, with runners on 1st and 3rd and Timmy at the plate in the 5th….the key is preserving the opportunity……you can A) let him take all the way…..B) run a safety squeeze/ sacrifice…..instead Timmy is first pitch swinging???? Ubaldo walked Posey on 5 pitches a few batter earlier…..just gone 3-1 to Fontenot and allowed his first run of the game…could it be possible that he might not have his best control and might have a lapse of concentration??? good god, at least let him work a pitch or two…….And then starts the runner with 1 out and a full count to Pablo……not smart, as Pablo has 5 swings in on Jimenez and 3 of those were swings and misses…..the others were a weak pop and a foul……and when you start a runner on 3-2, you are not only relying on the contact ability of the batter, but also his strike zone judgments.,…yes, PABLO'S Strike Zone Judgement……that’s as much of an Oxymoron as Bochy's Managing Ability…..

SMACK OF THE STICK :
PABLO
Sure Jimenez is about as nasty as they come, but we had a secret weapon….Pablo owned a career 10 for 28 with a .986n OPS off Ubaldo…..so when big spots for Pablo came up, you might think Pablo would be the one to come through….but Pablo came up with runners on 3 times, and went down 3 times…..in the 2nd on a popup, in the 5th striking out on 3 straight fastballs, and in the 7th swinging at ball 4 into a strike em out throw em out double play…..

TORRES
Had his own share of troubles….he was completely owned by Ubaldo……going 0 for 4 with 3 K's….and this has been par for the course against Ubaldo, as Andres is now 1 for 14 with 7 K's and 1 walk…..

(The fine print: There will be cussing and bad taste. This is written with the heat of the moment feel you may have during the game, with rational thought sprinkled in now and then. This is entertainment folks, sure there is a lot of truth and I am a genius, but this is all about having a laugh and enjoying the ride…….now lets go heckle Jeff Kent when he gets inducted to Cooperstown..)
