Why in the hell do I watch this shit….this isn't fun, this is exactly as Kuiper described……sweating palms, sinking feeling in my stomach…..man, I can't handle this ….but when the high flying circus act is done I look up and the scoreboard and we won……man, the way the Giants played I feel like we lost…… sloppy sloppy play…5 walks, gaffes in the field and on the bases and we still got the W……man, if they played like they should, this wouldn't have been a contest……But instead of putting on their game faces and playing focused championship ball, the Giants backed into the win relying on Houdini acts inning after inning…..the Giants are lucky that the Dodgers are cold, cause they played like shit…..some one needs to take hold of this locker room and give them some focus…..they play like they are all playing their first goddamn game in the majors……Your rival should bring out YOUR BEST, not this shitty brand of ball they have played…. I don't know what's going to shake them, but they sorely need some confidence against the Dodgers……and I don't care how many times you beat LA, if you play like you did tonight, you are still going to play tight sloppy ball….

Well someone had some fire and announced his presence with authority……Thrown into the fire …nursing a shirnking lead with the bases juiced to perhaps the most clutchy active player in the NL…..and with zero room for error, he stemmed the time getting Ethier to bounce out to end the threat…..and then came back out for the 8th and got the ball to the closer only giving up a 2 out bouncing single to Kemp….and in my favorite at bat of the night, just plain broke down Loney on a curveball for strike three….and as Loney walks back to the dugout, he glares at the mound looking pissed off at Affeldt for throwing something so nasty…..

Romo is no stranger to the Dodgers…..his bomb to Manny from early in the year is a staple of Dodgers television, working its way into highlight reels and commercials and the like…..so I am sure the Dodgers were salivating at the prospect of facing Romo again with the game on the line…..and he didn't disappoint…..turning a 2 out and man on first, into based loaded and the Dodgers "Captain Clutch" come to the plate…..INEXCUSABLE….how the FUCK do you walk JAMEY FREAKING CARROLL to load the bases???? and not only that, but on 4 straight pitches…..the game was over right there……just handed to the Dodgers on a silver plater……I walked away from the TV, feeling as if Romo had just screwed my girlfriend and kicked my dog……or maybe kicked my girlfriend and screwed my dog……whatever, that doesn't matter….all I know is that Romo's stuff isn't good enough to get by without control……and I don't even mean throwing strikes…he has to LOCATE his pitches…..and good god, how can he LOCATE his pitches, when he barely knows where homeplate is……sorry, but until Romo gets it worked out, and/ or Runzler comes back, the bullpen is now the weak link…….

And on the other side of the ledger, made one of the biggest boneheads of the night going for the tag instead of the force, handing the Dodgers a run…..yes, the run shouldn't have scored, but Loney coulda easily started a rundown…..and sorry, the throw to first is more of a sure thing than ANY rundown……you see that play a fucking billion times, and a billion times the infielder throws the ball to first, like they are supposed to…..well, I guess Pablo found out why tonight…..

Taking a page from the bonehead playbook, Torres forgot how many out there were in the 8th, getting doubled off first and ending a prime opportunity to put the Dodgers away….

Well, that strike zone wasn't as bad a Cuzzi, but it was moving big time…..to the benefit/ detriment of both teams……but the in the daily screw the Giants call of the day, they gave the Dodgers their second run on the tag play……good god, are any if these idiots paying attention????? are the just tired??? man, these umps are fucking killing us…lets just hope that Good Old Frank Robinson cracks some skulls….

Dude…..the ROCK of the PEN last year….with that sizzling fastball and big ass bitting hook from the right side…..but today….well, his old demons came back to haunt him…once a blue chip Royals Starting pitching prospect….never found the plate enough in his youth to stick….and after bouncing around he finally seemed to find a home in the pen the last few years…..but today was just fucking abominable,…..18 pitches…4 strikes…..yes, 4 of those balls came on an intentional pass……but Affeldt was just plain out of control….and you don't last in the show if you can't put the ball over the plate when the pressure is on……

I don't like the intentional walk to Reynolds for 2 reasons…..first Reynolds is a HACKER…..yes he may go deep….but its MORE likely he will HACK…..and second is Affeldt was all over the place…..suddenly he is going to get the feel back and deal????....and hey maybe Reynolds takes a wild hack at something out of the zone……and honestly, in general I don't like the move of EVER walking the bases juiced…..thats the only time a pitcher MUST ABSOLUTELY throw strikes and EVERYONE KNOWS…..why do you think everytime you see the graph of someones numbers with the bases juiced they are always hitting like .400+……..well OK, the real #s...league is hitting .256 on average…and .296 with the bases juiced…..2009..254 v 265 with the bases juiced…..

Opening on the road is never as cool as opening at home, but in this case it's probably a good thing… I hear that last year Tim was a bit surprised the game got started so quick after the rain delay and was a bit unprepared on his way to an early exit…Tomorrow may not be huge in the big scheme of things, but for me I am watching Tim performance with the playoffs in the back of my head…. Opening day is about a big a adrenaline rush as you are going to get outside of post season and so far in adrenaline games, he has been less than stellar….Opening Day and All Star Game Last Year ….I don't doubt he will get over the hump and be able to perform in crunch time, but the sooner he learns the better…..I want my ring dammit……

Now for the final installment before the real games begin……GAMER or HEADCASE…. the BULLPEN

BRIAN WILSON
Just a straight up wack job… Trying way to hard to be cool and funny….but there is something seriously off with this guy…I would hate to be on that LOST show with this guy, because you know he would be the first one looking to eat someone……Good thing he isn't on my plane, he is on the mound where he channels his RETARD STRENGTH into a high 90's fastball mixed with enough offspeed to keep the other team off balance….maybe it’s a blessing he is so strange, cause I'm sure hitters pick up on that weird ass vibe…..like he could just as likely strike you out as hump your dog…..

JEREMY AFFELDT
Jeremy is the class clown, always looking for the spotlight and that’s cool cause he actually is pretty funny and of course his stuff is fucking filthy….He backs up his mid 90's fastball with a big bending curveball….still walks too many, but got the outs when he needed them to post a 1.73 ERA last year….don't expect a repeat of that performance, but do expect a solid lefthanded setup man out of the pen….

DAN RUNZLER
Oooo boy, Leftie…. Throws Hard…. Mentored by Steve Kline and Jeremy Affeldt….this kid is going to need therapy….steamrolled through the minors last year, and the early returns are in and they are good…in fact he has the fantasy baseball community so worked up, it sounds like they just watched Erin Andrews Peephole Video

Maybe its just me, but after the Giants ripped off 5 in a row, and we came upon the Sadowski v the Phillies + Cliff Lee and actually hung around until the later innings….I am not taking this loss too hard….of course it helps when you know that Timmy day is just around the Corner…..and really, would have loved to win this one but the Phillies are relieved to get a W before the weekend……

Mr 28 appearances without a run was handed a bad situation and made it worse……Jeremy had NOTHING coming out of the pen…..balls bouncing balls hitting players……just plain ugly …..he allowed the double steal and then proceeded to hit a batter on a 3 ball count……then walked in a run on a 4 pitch walk…..and then when he did finally find the zone, he gave up another 2 runs and the close game became out of hand……Affeldt is not just the most important reliever on this staff, he is the 3rd most important pitcher on the roster….lets hope tonight was just an abreation and not a return back to the mean for Jeremy who had been so good so many times……

The Giants were hanging tough against a very strong opponent…just laying in the weeds looking to scratch out a couple runs…..then the 4 pitch leadoff walk to Rollins then a 4 pitch walk to Utley with 1 down set the stage for the to go from a 1 run deficit to a 4 run deficit…..our a mountain to claim for an offensively challenged team versus the reigning AL Cy Young…..

SADOWSKI
Was squeezed a bit, but this kid is a mirage…..decent stuff, good head and decent control. does not add up to success…..if he can shave corners he might have a chance…..but right now it would make sense for the Giants to start looking elsewhere….Randy's spot in the rotation is a big key to our success, as ugly as Randy was at times (insert ugly joke here) the Giants were 10-7 in his starts….including 4 in a row before his injury…..time to see if Martinez or Pucetas can catch lightning in a bottle…..

Sure, what are these guys supposed to do versus a pitcher of Lee's caliber…..but you HAVE to do better than 1 hit in 7 innings…..this is the kind of pitcher we would face in the playoffs if we can make it that far…..you need to at least work a count and get to the pen….oh yeah……this IS the Giants I am talking about

GARKO? You sure about that Merkin……

By now most of you have read 100 different takes on the Garko Trade…. from the Rose Colored Glasses Homers talking about RBI men, to the Calculus Professors discussing VORP, WAR, BABIP, OPS, and UZR….. but I know most of you are waiting for ME to tell you what to believe….. Well folks, here's the way ME sees it…. Garko is a hitter with power…. not a power hitter, so don't even think like that…..if you look at the basic numbers he has been similar to Conor Jackson, and you wouldn't call him a power hitter…… Now talk of a platoon with Ishikawa is off base as far as I can tell… if you look at platoon splits look at as much data as you can get….for Garko look at career splits….for Ishikawa look at Minor and Major league data ….neither player has a large platoon split and looks like Garko is doing more damage versus Righthanders than Ishikawa….I have read some people to say this was a silly trade as the downgrade from Ishikawa's defense offsets most of the gain from Garko's offense…..I call bullshit on this one, I mean I love a good glove man as much as the next guy but how bad can Garko be? Does Garko like to play first blindfolded without a glove or something? He's a fucking 1st baseman, which means if you can scoop and can catch anything within falling distance you are doing your job….. those sweet plays Ishikawa makes are nice, but not 20 runs a year nice…and heck, you can always Double Switch with the lead (hear that Bochy?)…So I hear Garko is slower than molasses….gimme a break, I have been watching Molina and Mark Sweeney for 4 years…..from what little I can see in highlights and video he is slow, but not ridiculous…..and only 6 DP's all year…..and a career 23.7 PA with men on/ DP compared with a 22.6 PA NL Average, 22.9 PA Giants Average and 14.4 PA Molina Average ……so he is an offensive upgrade, how much of an upgrade is he?? Well, I consulted my ouija board my crystal ball and my magical slide rule of truth, and Garko is worth 0.144 more runs per game or about 1 run per week…..and that’s assuming Ishi can keep his numbers where they are, which is not a given….and think about it…..how many times have you found yourself late in the game thinking, "If the Giants could have scored 0.144 more runs in the 6th inning, we would have won this game." Well fret no more, cause Garko is here and he may not be the savior…. but he is already showing dividends…..just tonight the Giants beat the Pirates 3.022 to 2.878…..

Hey, Affeldt has been well….money…..forget the 27 innings….that's 28 appearances without run…..that's fucking ridiculous…..some may say its easier to pitch 27 scoreless innings in relief, because you can come in with 1 or 2 outs already in the book and get pulled quick if you are in trouble….I submit to you that its HARDER in relief….28 times he warmed up in 12 different bullpens and had his stuff…….28 times he jogged to 12 different bullpens and was able to immediately find his groove…..I think of pitching like a golf swing, its about repetition, muscle memory, and feel…..If you play golf picture this in your mind….when you step out there on the first tee you are still getting into the feel of the day and have to break the ice mentally and physically….Affeldt just stepped up to the 1st tee 28 times and nailed drives right down the pipe…..chipped it up to the green…..and then drained the putt…..if you don't play golf… don't start…..its hard and expensive and time consuming……So here is your gameball Mr Affeldt, interesting celebration in the dugout, but to each his own, personally I prefer celebrating by taking a super soaker to any neighborhood cats I can find, but to each his own……

Tough one to be sure, but had to give the nod to Affeldt for the streak…..but Velez was the offense for the Giants today…..separated from the Giants coaching staff long enough that he remembered how to hit, and obviously loving the Major League per diem (just think of all the bird seed you can eat no Eugenio)…..we will forgive the miscue on the grounder…..and the scorer ruled it a hit anyway, and if its good enough for him……
