JUST WAIT UNTIL 2011!!!
has been the tongue in cheek battle cry of the 2009 giants as they look at the anticipated bounty that awaits in the minors……but something funny happened on the way to the 2011 pennant….the NL West is YOUNG and the Giants aren't the only team that will be formidable in 2011…..the Baby Giants might have a hard time making it out of the division, let alone making it all the way to the coveted World Championship……
On that note lets play a little game…..
Lets start with some assumptions (I have taken my liberties to be sure)
1) Screw the Padres and Rockies…..both teams are unpredictable in regards to payroll in comparison with the Dodgers, Dbacks and Giants……
2) The Giants, Dodgers, and Dbacks will resign any of their own players that will become free agents
3) The only players that make the show by 2011 are on the 2009 Top 100 BA List . I needed to draw a line somewhere…Bumgarner, Alderson, Villalona, Posey, Parra, Parker, and Lambo…..sorry no Noonan or Crawford…..but no Bell or Lindblom, no Miley or Schlereth ……if anything this would seem to favor the Giants……..
4) The rest of the players come from the current Active Roster or DL
5) I make the best/ youngest lineup I can
As you can see, there will be a ton of
youngsters (under 25)
players in their prime (25-31)
For the Dodgers
In their Prime
Russell Martin, James Loney, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Blake DeWitt , Chad Billingsley, James McDonald and Jonathan Broxton
Youngsters
Clayton Kershaw, and Andrew Lambo
For the Dbacks
In their Prime
Conor Jackson, Stephen Drew, Mark Reynolds, Chris Young, Miguel Montero, Felipe Lopez, Dan Haren, and Max Scherzer
Youngsters
Justin Upton, Gerardo Parra, and Jarrod Parker
For the Giants
Fred Lewis, Emmanuel Burriss, Eugenio Velez, Nate Schierholtz, Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez, and Brian Wilson
Youngsters
Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Angel Villalona, Madison Bumgarner, and Tim Alderson
Based upon this faulty crystal ball, still looks like Giants will need hitting to keep with Jackson, Drew, Young and Upton…..with Loney, Ethier, Kemp and Martin
The Giants project to have the best Pitching staff, but the Dodgers and Dbacks aren't exactly poor as Kershaw, Billingsley, Webb, and Haren should still be dealing and McDonald, Scherzer, and Parker could all establish themselves……
And the Giants will still be green kids, going against players old enough to know how to play, and young enough to do it………
Giants fans better hope their prospects beyond their top 4 start to pan out, or that battle cry might be JUST WAIT UNTIL 2015!!!!
Hate to leave you with a downer….I am just calling em like I see em
